Rosemary Mayer: Conceptual Works & Early Fabric Sculptures, 1969-1973
October 21 - December 11, 2016
Southfirst Gallery, Brooklyn, NY

Curated by Marie Warsh, Max Warsh, and Maika Pollack

The first solo exhibition of Rosemary’s work since the 1980s, Conceptual Works & Early Fabric Sculptures, 1969-1973 focused on a pivotal period in the young artist’s career. The show traced the development of her work from largely text-based, conceptual works—influenced by her studies at the School of Visual Art and her involvement in the journal 0 TO 9—to the large scale fabric sculptures for which she became well known in the 1970s and marked her growing involvement in feminist art circles. Excerpts from her journal from 1971 were published in conjunction with the exhibition, providing additional insight into Rosemary’s life and work during this time. A program of talks and performances inspired new perspectives on and interpretations of Rosemary’s work. For more information about this exhibition please visit the gallery website here.
